The JEA Forum, owned by JEA, has replaced the Listserv that was hosted by Kansas State University as the new community discussion platform.
What is the JEA Forum?
An online communication platform for JEA members only to discuss topics of interest and share valuable resources. It offers a place to post discussions like the previous Listserv plus other user-friendly features. The JEA Forum is part of the new member management system and is located within the Info Hub.
Why should I use the JEA Forum?
The JEA Forum provides user-friendly features that allow members to collaborate and communicate more easily. The JEA Forum is a community experience where members can communicate and share resources to help advisers get support for everyday challenges that arise in their classrooms and education environment. This platform will be a more robust place for those conversations and community support. The enhancements include:
- All current members have access to the JEA Forum and do not have to opt in.
- Members are not obligated to access the Forum or participate.
- The Forum is part of the Info Hub that you can look at if and when you choose.
Users are able to share files, links and an image to a post.
- Draft a post and publish it later.
- You can create a Watchlist to follow topics or posts.
- Set up your own Forum communication preferences.
- Control if or how often you receive email notifications.
- Control which topic(s), comments, etc. that you get email notifications about.
- Set your email notification frequency to none, as it happens, daily or monthly.
- There are topics that help organize the Forum discussions so you can follow your interests.
- There is also a search function where you can filter by keywords, topics, author and timeframe.
This platform is more robust and allows for advanced interaction between members. Participate in it to see for yourself because these are just some of the features that this new member communication platform provides.
How do I use the JEA Forum?
Login to your JEA membership account at jea.org (top right purple button that says ‘login’) to enter your Info Hub, where the JEA Forum is located.
- If you’re not automatically sent to the Info Hub, click the red “profile” button at the top of the JEA website, and you will be in.
Click on “Forum” in the purple column at the left.
- If you do NOT see Forum in that column and your JEA membership is current and paid, please email staff@jea.org, so that we can correct a setting and enable the Forum on your account.
Once you’re in the JEA Forum, you can see the Topics (forums) on the right.
- Click on any of them to see posts related to that topic.
- To add to the discussion on an existing post, click Comment and add to the thread.
- You can reply to another person’s comment.
You can create a new post under any topic.
- Click on the topic that you want to add a post to.
- Click on the red “Add New Topic” button at the top.
- Add New Topic = Add a Post
- The system language is not the most logical; we have tried but are not able to change it at this time.
- Add a subject line and type your message.
- Don’t forget to PUBLISH your post. Check the Publish box at the bottom left and then click ‘Done’ at the bottom right.
- If you don’t publish your post, it will go into your drafts. You can click on it there, click the edit (pencil) icon and then publish it.

Additional features for JEA Forum users
How to Watch (follow) a topic or post
- To Watch an entire topic in the list, click JEA Forums then click the eyeball icon at the right of the topic (forum) you want to watch.
- A purple eyeball means you are watching the topic
- A gray eyeball with a line through it means you are not watching the topic.
- For example, to Watch “Curriculum & Teaching Resources,” click on JEA Forum, then click the eyeball at the right of Curriculum & Teaching Resources. You can watch any or all of the topics listed there.
- You also can watch specific posts if you want to follow any comments added to that discussion. So, if you are in Curriculum & Teaching Resources, for example, click the eyeball icon by any post to follow that post and comments added to it.
- If you no longer want to Watch (follow) a topic or conversation, just click the eyeball icon to turn it off.
- You can access your Watch list in the top right corner of the Forum.

- You can only add files/attachments to a NEW conversation (not when you comment).
- If you want to respond and include a file, then you might comment on the post to alert the person that you are going to create a new post with a document or whatever.

What happened to the K-State Listserv and the conversations there?
Information was emailed to all members in September 2025 on how to archive any previous communication from the Listserv. It will become inactive in early October. The Listserv was a valuable communication tool that served the members well during its time. But the Listserv was an outdated discussion board that did not advance with technology updates. As JEA continues to innovate, so do the communication platforms we provide members.
After the Listserv is disabled, if there is something from the past that you need from the Listserv, please email staff@jea.org, and a Listserv administrator will try to assist.
Where do I go for help or to learn more about the JEA Forum?
There are tutorial videos and written instructions available on our JEA website.
Please note that there are a few dated references in the video, but the instructions for using the Forum are all accurate. In addition, our membership platform has a helpful article about the forum as well. If you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please contact staff@jea.org.
Contact staff@jea.org if you still have not activated your member account in the new membership system that was launched in September 2024. An active membership is needed to access the JEA member Info Hub where the JEA Forum is.
