MOTIONS:

Why should the motion be adopted (background, need, mission)?

Over the years, there has been demand for competitions for advisers to show off their skills. Our National Student Media Contests offer great opportunities for students but none for advisers. Further, the NSMC are tied to conventions meaning that less than one-third of our membership can ever take advantage of them.

What is the motion (what is the new policy, budget allocation, bylaw, and who is making the motion — you [“I move …”] or a committee [“The awards committee moves …”])?

The committee on NSMC moves that JEA create a non-convention, themed photo contest for advisers to take place once in the spring and once in the fall with the contest announcement, theme and results to be publicized on JEA official social media and on jea.orgBudget: none for next fiscal year

How would the motion be implemented (who would be in charge of execution, what budget lines would change, where would we modify our procedure)?

We have piloted off-convention photo contests so the systems are in place. Turnout will not, initially, be high so it’s a good member benefit with no charge in 2025. It will be judged all online by our panel of existing photo judges at no cost to JEA. We will report to the Board in the fall of 2025 and spring of 2026 the number of participants, award recipients and recommendation for future such contests.
