Newsroom by the Bay – June 23-30, 2014

Newsroom by the Bay is a one-week, intensive 1:1 iPad digital journalism camp for high school students, located at Stanford University.

Students spend their mornings in journalism classes, learning the basics of news reporting and writing, along with multimedia storytelling and packaging, and iPad photography and video skills. Students also work in teams to publish their work to WordPress websites. Afternoon reporting time is spent doing real-life stories on the Stanford campus, the second-largest in the world, including world-famous museums, libraries, jazz festival events, and scientific facilities. We also partner with the Stanford Daily and Stanford Radio to provide opportunities for students to learn about college news organizations. As part of camp week, students travel to San Francisco and Silicon Valley for visits to leading news organizations as well as cultural landmarks, ballparks and museums. Camp week ends with a multimedia showcase where student news teams present their work for judging by Stanford Daily and professional journalists.

Applications are competitive but rolling; students who apply and pay by April 1 are eligible for our free mini-iPad giveaway. NBTB draws students from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, as well as across the U.S. If you’re looking for a learning experience that includes writing real-life stories, come to Stanford and be a part of Newsroom by the Bay 2014!
