Here’s a fix if you can’t get audio through your headphones for a stream

After a few livestream events this year, my announcers told me they couldn’t hear each other through their headphones. After some investigating I realized my announcers had never been able to hear each other during the streams and had failed to tell me.

Our setup uses a Yamaha MG102c mixing console for the announcer’s headphones and mics to run through and there’s even a space for a producer to plug in headphones and keep tabs on what things sound like. You can see it pictured here.

To try and help them I twisted all the knobs and pushed all the buttons I could and then eventually do what I do best — I reached out to someone way smarter than myself (there are a lot of people out there that fit this bill). Albert Dupont from Loyola University New Orleans came to the rescue.

He told me we needed an amplifier to get the necessary “umph” from the board to the headphones and he recommended a cable and amplifier like these two items.

Everything arrived and the team hooked things up for their stream that night. For the first time that any of them could remember, the announcers and producers could hear what was going on.
