Everyone can do an editorial cartoon with Storyboard That

The moment I met Storyboardthat.com, I knew I had to try it out with my students.

Sure, there are lots of free options out there, but this paid educational site is worth the $30 annual educational price in so many aspects: managing student accounts, sharing, publishing, and choosing from an abundant array of figures, speech bubbles, and environments.

Budding editorial cartoonists can take an idea and run.

I spent a week working with my beginning journalism class on the finer points of editorial cartooning, and when I took them into the computer news lab to produce actual cartoons, it literally took them minutes to produce a first draft (and some goofy spoofs as well).

Take a look at the ones I chose to share with my newspaper staff.  I don’t feel tethered to requiring an artist to make editorial cartoons anymore — now we just need to execute good ideas in Storyboard That.
