Color code cable packs with different colors of electrical tape

These are cables hanging from a bracket on a wall. The cables have two lines of green electrical tape near each end. One easy way to organize your cables for livestream productions is to use different colors of electrical tape for different items. You can find packs like this online pretty cheap and the time and energy your team saves will be well worth it 15 times over.

If you’re running multiple cameras, have each camera be a different color and then decide where that camera is going to go. In one of the examples here, we have a green camera on top of the press box and the orange camera is the student cam that’s placed in the southwest corner of the gymnasium. Each of those cameras needs power, SDI and XLR cables run to them. It will save lots of time and energy if you measure out cables that are the appropriate size and label them accordingly so setup and take down can go smoothly.

For our setup, we have streams indoors and outdoors, therefore, we have two different cord packs for each camera. If the camera is getting set up inside, the appropriate cables have one ring of color around each end (see the orange cables in the image). If the stream is outside, then the cables have two rings of the appropriate colors around the edges (see the green cables in the image).

This may seem tedious and overkill, but the better things are labeled and the easier it is to setup and take down, the more successful your team will be each stream.
