By Kelly Furnas, MJE, JEA nominations chair
As we continue to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of journalism education, I am excited to announce an opportunity for passionate and dedicated individuals to step up and make a meaningful impact on the Journalism Education Association.
We are currently seeking candidates to run for two open seats on JEA’s board of directors: the scholastic press rights director and one director-at-large. All board members are responsible for representing JEA’s members and shaping the strategic goals of the organization, but in particular:
The scholastic press rights director involves working closely with students, educators and legal experts to ensure that student voices are protected and respected in the ever-changing media environment.
The director-at-large position is responsible for identifying projects and initiatives that align with their individual strengths and skills, and serves as a board-level advocate to bring those projects and initiatives to fruition.
Why should you consider running for the board of directors?
- Make a difference: By joining the board, you’ll have a direct hand in shaping the future of journalism education and advocating for the rights of student journalists and their advisers.
- Network and collaborate: Collaborate with like-minded individuals who are passionate about journalism education and expand your professional network.
- Personal and professional growth: Develop leadership skills, gain experience in governance and enhance your resume.
- Contribute to our community: Give back to the JEA community that has supported you throughout your career.
If you are interested in running for either of these positions, please review the nomination process and fill out the interest form. The deadline for nominations is Oct. 27.
If you have any questions about the roles, responsibilities, or the nomination process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Nominations Chair Kelly Furnas, MJE, for additional information and guidance.
Thank you for your dedication to journalism education, and we look forward to welcoming new voices to our board of directors.
