As the board of directors began a new two-year term May 1, President Valerie Kibler, MJE, appointed Kelly Furnas, MJE, to lead the JEA’s nominations committee as outlined in the bylaws (Article VII).
Furnas, former JEA executive director, is a lecturer and advises student media at Elon University in North Carolina. He will continue to serve as JEA’s global engagement director.
“The selflessness and commitment that it takes for members to volunteer for board positions has always been an inspiration to me. I’m honored to help candidates navigate the process and will do everything I can to make the upcoming election as smooth and efficient as possible,” Furnas said.
Beginning in 2023, JEA elections take place annually. The February 2024 election will determine the scholastic press rights director and one director-at-large for a two-year term beginning May 1, 2024.
