SJW Student Poster Contest winner
2026 Winner: Theo Slade, North Springs High School, Atlanta
JEA hosted this year's Scholastic Journalism Week Student Poster Contest Aug. 11-Sept. 15, 2025. Students submitted poster designs inspired by this year's theme, Press Under Pressure. The SJW committee selected three finalists and JEA members voted for the winner.
The winning design was featured on a commemorative poster promoting #SJW2026 that was sent out to JEA members in November with the winter issue of C:JET magazine. We encourage you to display the poster in your classroom before and after the big week.

Floyd Abrams: Speaking Freely
In celebration of student journalists and the vital work they do in their communities, the film "Floyd Abrams: Speaking Freely" will be available to stream for FREE for participating teachers, students and organizations during Scholastic Journalism Week.
The film explores America's dedication to the foundational principles of free speech and free press through the groundbreaking work of attorney Floyd Abrams. A biopic of the First Amendment, the film serves as a catalyst for meaningful conversation around the current state of free speech and offers important lessons for student reporters facing challenges to their work today.
Teachers and advisers, build the film into your curriculum for SJW 2026! Use the discussion guide, linked below, to discover ideas for questions and activities.
“[Abrams] greatest contributions really were in the area of making sure the press couldn't be stopped from publishing the truth and couldn't be punished for publishing the truth. And those things now wholly accepted, were not well-established before Floyd Abrams hit the scene.”
– Adam Liptak, Supreme Court Reporter, New York Times
