The Journalism Education Association approved two new proposals for the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention, signing contracts for Nashville in fall of 2029 and Orlando in fall of 2030.

Both motions passed 7-0 in online votes conducted by the board of directors Sept. 30. The contracts also were approved by the National Scholastic Press Association, JEA’s convention partner.

“Both of these contracts were a result of moving this fall and last spring’s conventions due to the pandemic, but they represent two properties that are perfectly suited for our national convention model,” JEA Executive Director Kelly Glasscock, CJE, said. “I’m sad we didn’t have a chance to visit this past year, but securing both for future use was an easy call. In signing, we also removed all cancellation liability for JEA and NSPA, which protects the organizations in such a challenging time.”

The Nashville convention will again utilize the Gaylord Opryland Resort, while the Orlando convention will return to the Marriott World Center. Both properties host all meeting space, while trying to plan for maximum occupancy in the hotel for sleeping rooms.

“These properties are incredible venues for students to experience, adding such a big ‘wow’ factor to the educational programming of the National High School Journalism Convention,” JEA President Sarah Nichols, MJE, said. “I’m so glad our members and their students will get to enjoy these two locations to experience the atmosphere and take advantage of the amenities on site for future conventions.”

Nashville and Orlando were already scheduled for future conventions — in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
