JEA is honored to announce the team of scholastic journalism educators who will be leading the organization’s curriculum efforts in 2014-15.

In July 2013, JEA appointed the initial team of curriculum leaders, which developed the materials that launched last April at curriculum.jea.org. The new team will build upon those efforts by updating lessons, examples and assessments, while continuing to provide outreach through national professional learning communities and online chats.

The curriculum leaders for 2014-15:

  • DESIGN: Renee Burke, MJE, of Boone High School in Orlando, Fla.
  • EDITING: Shari Adwers, MJE, of Grosse Pointe North High School, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.
  • ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Abrianna Nelson, CJE, of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville
  • LAW AND ETHICS: Lori Keekley, MJE, of St Louis Park (Minn.) High School
  • LEADERSHIP AND TEAM BUILDING: Valerie P. Kibler, CJE, of Harrisonburg (Va.) High School
  • MULTIMEDIA BROADCAST: Kristofer Doran, of Trumbull Career & Technical Center in Warren, Ohio
  • NEWS GATHERING: Vicki McCash Brennan, CJE, of Saint Petersburg, Fla.
  • NEWS LITERACY: Megan Fromm, CJE, of Boise (Idaho) State University
  • PHOTOJOURNALISM: Julieanne McClain, CJE, of Rutherford B. Hayes High School in Delaware, Ohio
  • WEB: Michelle Balmeo, CJE, of Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, Calif.
  • WRITING: Brenda Gorsuch, MJE, of West Henderson High School in Hendersonville, N.C.
