Membership

Teacher/Adviser membership is designed for media advisers and journalism educators in public, private and parochial schools, community colleges, universities and teacher education programs.

Members receive all JEA publications and are entitled to all services provided by the association. Teacher/Adviser members may participate in meetings and conferences, vote, hold office, nominate candidates for office and propose actions or programs.

International Teacher/Adviser membership is available to journalism educators and media advisers outside the United States.

Members receive all JEA publications and enjoy access to JEA programs, resources and professional development opportunities. International Teacher/Adviser members may participate in meetings and conferences, vote, hold office, nominate candidates for office and propose actions or programs.

Administrator/Non-Teacher membership is intended for school superintendents, curriculum specialists, principals, assistant principals, librarians, CTE coordinators and other educators who support scholastic journalism but are not classroom journalism teachers.

Members receive all JEA publications and may participate in meetings and conferences, vote, hold office, nominate candidates for office and propose actions or programs.

Lifetime Teacher/Adviser membership offers a convenient, one-time investment for educators committed to scholastic journalism. Members enjoy all the benefits and privileges of Teacher/Adviser membership without the need for annual renewals and are protected from future dues increases. 

Lifetime members receive all JEA publications and are entitled to all services provided by the association. They may participate in meetings and conferences, vote, hold office, nominate candidates for office and propose actions or programs.

Emeritus membership is available to retired teachers and advisers who wish to remain engaged with the scholastic journalism community, provided they are not employed by commercial firms or engaged in enterprises that may present a conflict of interest.

Emeritus members receive C:JET and may participate in meetings and conferences, vote, hold office, nominate candidates for office and propose actions or programs.

Associate membership is designed for individuals outside the field of education who share JEA's commitment to advancing scholastic journalism. This category includes professional journalists and employees of commercial organizations that provide products or services to journalism educators.

Associate members receive all JEA publications and may participate in meetings and conferences but may not vote, hold office, nominate candidates for office or propose actions or programs.

College Student membership is available to undergraduate and graduate students majoring or minoring in journalism, education or related fields.

Members receive all JEA publications and may participate in meetings and conferences. College Student members may not vote, hold office, nominate candidates for office or propose actions or programs.

Affiliate membership is available to state and regional scholastic press associations and collegiate student chapters.

The designated representative of each affiliate organization receives all JEA publications and may participate in meetings and conferences with full rights to vote, hold office, nominate candidates for office and propose actions or programs.

Institutional Members shall be:

• All public and private libraries
• Regional, state and national press associations
• Departments of journalism in community colleges and universities whether public, private or parochial.
• Commercial press associations, book, yearbook, magazine or newspaper publishers.
• All firms, organizations and agencies engaged in the production of graphic arts or advertising.
• Television and radio stations.
• Educational or philanthropic foundations.

The designated representative of institutions shall receive all JEA publications, may participate in meetings or conferences, but shall not vote nor hold office nor nominate candidates for office nor propose actions or programs.

This is not a site license for journalism educators at a school. Journalism educators should purchase individual teacher/adviser memberships, listed above.
