Flint Hills Publications Workshop

July 13-14, 2026

Manhattan, Kansas

A workshop for high school journalism students and advisers hosted at Kansas State University offering an in-person experience for connection and collaboration.

A tradition dating back to 1961 at Kansas State University, The Flint Hills Publications Workshop has maintained the same goal throughout it’s more than 60 year history — to prepare publications staffs for the new school year by imparting critical journalistic skills.

Our aim is for you to take home a plan of attack. After this workshop, you should feel excited to get the year started off right. You’ll have the tools you’ll need to motivate your staff, take better photos, write better stories and design better publications. We also want to provide a platform for you to start producing your publication over the summer. If you are a yearbook staff, arrive with ideas and leave with a fully developed theme, cover design, opening and inside spread design and all ready for finishing touches once you’re back in school. If you work on a newspaper staff, imagine a redesign that will catch the attention of your entire school and have it finished before you even step back on campus.

After a survey of recent campers, three things stood out. Our campers wanted a better campus experience; seeing more of campus including the bookstore, dorms and residence halls. Our campers wanted more diverse and tastier food options. Lastly, our workshop campers sought improved entertainment options throughout the workshop. We will deliver on all three of these requests at this summer’s FHPW 2025 with campus tours, improved food options, and multiple options for entertainment.

We have the best camp instructors around and we hope you choose to elevate your publications by attending our short, fast-paced workshop to help start your school year off on the right foot.
