A student shared me with an email they recently received from Drake University on their birthday. It was a fun marketing email from Griff, the University mascot, wishing the student a happy birthday. However, what was in the email reminded me of a post I wrote for this site years ago and I think is worth revisiting today. The post was about creating and sharing assets with your audience to help keep you front and center in their mind.
The birthday email from Drake included a series of Giphy GIFs of Griff (say that three times fast) that could be used and a link to downloadable wallpapers that students could also download and use for free.
It’s a great reminder that staffs should be doing this same thing for their schools and communities. Not only are GIFs of mascots and fun mobile phone wallpaper images nice, consider leveling those downloads up a bit with downloadable sports schedules or images of clubs with an award they won. The images will be nice services for your audience and, if you brand them subtly and correctly, a nice little frequent reminder for them to check out your site, follow your socials or buy your yearbook.
There are lots of resources out there to help you size your images for mobile phones. Here’s one that might help get you started.
