Student videos to receive live critique during chalk talk session at the LA National Convention

Gloria Shields Workshop 2015

I am trying something new this year as I begin preparations for the upcoming JEA/NSPA National High School Convention in LA.

I have developed the following session and I’m asking for audience participation AHEAD of the conference!

Session: Video news package chalk talk

Description: What are the key elements that make video news package interesting and engaging? In this session, we will cover sound bites, b-roll, natural sound, finding those “golden nuggets,” and the basics of telling a great video story.

Date: Saturday, April 16, 2016

Beginning time: 9 am
Ending time: 9:50 am
Location: San Gabriel A, Lobby Level

If you and your students will be attending the conference and you would like to have ONE of your student videos critiqued during this “chalk talk” session, please email a link to the video to ladueviewshow@gmail.com. I would also ask that the videos meet the following criteria:

  • Video story 2 mins in length or less
  • Journalistic in nature
  • Story must have been produced between August 2015 to March 2016
  • You must allow me permission to download the video in case wifi doesn’t work during the session
  • Student(s) producers of selected video(s) must be present in the session in order for their video to be critiqued

Is this a risk? YES! Is it an exciting risk? YES! Could this crash and burn for me? YES! (I will have other videos prepared as needed.) I hope this is a fun challenge.
