Storify offers a way to write original text and combine it with social media posts

storify_tutorialThe first post on Storify here on jeadigitalmedia.org was in November 2011.

Really? How could it have taken me so long to discover the usefulness of such a program?

According to storify.com/about, “Storify helps making (sic) sense of what people post on social media. Our users curate the most important voices and turn them into stories.”

One of my students presented the potential of Storify to my beginning journalism class, and it blew my mind!

Many of the students in my class were baffled because they couldn’t find it as an app on their mobile devices.  Storify is a web application.

In other words, according to its terms of service, “On Storify, you create stories by curating content from other Web sites and through the public APIs of other Web services. You, and not Storify, are entirely responsible for all content that you use on Storify. While Storify enables you to search for and curate content from other sites, we do not control the content posted and do not guarantee the accuracy or integrity of such content. Storify cannot be held liable for any damages arising from the use of such content.”

From what I understand, it offers the digital writer a chance to write original text plus glean from various social media posts — Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, for example.  I can’t wait to try it to cover school events, especially sports!

In Storify’s own words on its guided tour, “Storify lets you curate social networks to build social stories, bringing together media scattered across the Web into a coherent narrative.”

Here’s  about how to login (our login was whited out so as to protect our account), but you’ll get the picture.
