Sites that host photos and allow you to sell them
There are a variety of sites out there that will showcase your staff’s photos. There are so many photos taken during the year that can’t be seen in the newspaper or yearbook due to space limitations, it’s nice to have places to put the ‘best of the rest’ that don’t make the cut. Some of the sites out there can even generate revenue for your staff.
Sites like Picasa and Flickr are both great. They are easy to use and many students are probably already using them, however, the yare more photo-sharing sites without the revenue generating option. If you’re looking to host your photos somewhere and/or embed galleries on your site, check into a few of these options that can also earn your staff some extra cash.
mycapture
This is a site based out of St. Louis that you can upload your photos, create galleries, and people can purchase the photos and have them printed on anything ranging from paper and t-shirts to coffee mugs and baseballs. Mycapture does have an annual fee and you are locked in for one year if you sign up for their service, but you can set the prices of items to whatever you wish.
Printroom
Another site that allows you to upload your photos and sell them. Printroom actually offers a free version of their services, as well as a Pro and Premium version that have more features and support. Free version allows for 300 MB max upload. The Pro Version which is $9 a month allows you 1 GB of space and more features and the loaded Premium version runs $19.99 and allows you unlimited storage space.
SmugMug
This site, which is known by some as Smugbug, is very similar to the other two sites in terms of what they do. Storage is unlimited for all account levels. The Standard package is $39.95/year. For $59.95/year you can customize the look of your gallery and for $149.95/year you can add HD video to be available for download.
