#Press4Education is an initiative to match classroom teachers with professional journalists in their areas.
Professional journalists in the classroom reek of credibility and experience.
That’s why the Society of Professional Journalists and Journalism Education Association are making a nationwide effort to bring more journalism education to schools. And to do that, the program is finding journalists to visit classrooms in every state.
According to Associate Professor (University of Idaho, Journalism and Mass Media) and SPJ Education Committee Chair Rebecca Tallent, “JEA has been working with us every step of the way on this and we really want to see pros in classrooms in all 50 states.”
“The goal for the project is to not only provide a great resource for scholastic journalism educators, but to strengthen the future ranks of journalism practitioners,” said JEA President Sarah Nichols.
Journalists interested in sharing their passion for journalism and the First Amendment to students should fill out this volunteer form.
Educators who would like to request a journalist for their classroom should fill out this form.
Volunteers will then be matched with a teacher who has requested a journalist to visit their classroom.
