Newspaper Posts Twitter Comments in Paper

The Suburban Journal newspaper in St. Charles, Mo started doing something interesting this summer. They started printing Tweets from newsmakers throughout the St. Charles area in their newspaper. You can kind of see what they are doing from the attached photo. While there are a few things I would tweak with what they did, I think it’s a great start and as more high school publications start moving toward the Web, this type of Web/paper integration should be the norm, not the exception.

For full disclosure, the paper did use one of my staff’s tweets (@fhntoday) in their sidebar. However, the graphic caught my eye well before I saw the staff was mentioned. I’ve been working for the past couple years to get my staffs to integrate the Web and paper more. They have nothing really holding them back. I’m definitely not. I think they just haven’t necessarily seen the importance of integrating the Web into the other publications in the room. Maybe this will be the year…
