Kent State offers Master’s Degree for Journalism Educators Online

Kent State offers a 36-credit Master’s Degree for journalism educators through the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, available completely online. Kent State’s program emphasizes skills and theory you can study about today and use in your journalism classroom or student media outlet tomorrow. From coaching a novice news writer to gaining strategies to protect students’ First Amendment rights, the range of course content covers what you need to know to be an effective journalism educator.

Instructors include Mark Goodman, Knight Chair in Scholastic Media and former director of the Student Press Law Center, who teaches Legal Problems; John Bowen, JEA Scholastic Press Rights Commission chair and Kent State adjunct, who teaches Ethics; H.L. Hall, former JEA president, who teaches Media Management/Advising Student Media; Susan Hathaway Tantillo, JEA secretary, who teaches Reporting for Mass Media; and newsroom professionals who teach skills course from multi-media techniques to InDesign to photography and more.

All students pay the equivalent of in-state tuition and connect with each other through weekly real-time text or video chat during most classes. Students can take up to six hours as a guest student and have these apply to a degree program.
