Job Descriptions for Web Positions – Auburn Mountainview HS

One of the biggest questions many advisers have when establishing Web editors is “What do they do once I name them?” Auburn Mountainview High School adviser Stephanie Keagle shared her Web editor job description as well as her staff’s job description for Assistant to the Editors.
Web Editor
Qualifications:
- Must have background knowledge in web design
- Must be able to independently maintain an In View web site, either throughmyhighschooljournalism.org or some other means
- Should be self-driven and independent
- Strong communication skills
- Be innovative
Duties:
- Maintains In View web site
- Helps In View gain a strong presence online
- Updates articles as needed
- Communicates with editors effectively
- Educate AMHS students about web site
- Track hits and popularity of site
- Regularly research ways to make newspaper web presence stronger by reading articles and writing brief reports about the issue
Assistant to the Editors
Qualifications:
- Have strong communication skills
- Be a problem solver
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Willingness to work on any project assigned
Duties:
- Runs errands for editors and staff members
- Assists adviser in whatever duties are needed
- Assists business manager when necessary
- Files exchange papers when they are sent to us
- Sends exchange papers out after every issue is published
- Organizes the cabinets regularly
- Acts as club secretary
- Keeps track of staff birthdays
- Organizes one social outing per month for staff members
- Makes press passes for staff at the start of each fall and spring semester
- Writes news briefs/world briefs when necessary
