Q&A’s: Humanizing the Athletes You’re Covering

Sure, we would all love to cover every single sport — and every single athlete — who does something notable throughout the school year. But with resources (aka sports reporters!) limited and doing full stories on everything not remotely feasible, a very quick way to give athletes some recognition is by sitting down with them for a brief Q&A session. We made this into a (somewhat) weekly feature on our website, and like the “Breaking Sports Story” option, the people we interviewed tended to be brought up during our “What’s Happening?” conversation at the outset of class that day, when we discuss the big goings on in our building (both sports-related and not).

These interviews will probably start out being about sports in general and the accomplishment that led to the athlete being chosen specifically, but it’s also a lot of fun when it branches out to other aspects of the subject’s life, letting the audience get to know them as more than just an athlete.
