Ron Bonadonna, CJE , has been the adviser for his high school newspaper, The Maroon and Gray, for 24 years. During Bonadonna’s time as adviser, the number of journalism classes has grown from two to three and the second- and third-year courses carry honors status. The paper has received a number of state and national awards and has served Nutley High School in New Jersey for 51 years.  Bonadonna has been an active Board member of the Garden State Scholastic Press Association since 1983 and has served as its president for six years, following a four-year term as vice president. While he was president, GSSPA membership doubled, he brought in a $5,000 student scholarship, and started the organization’s website and regional programs. He has served as speaker and judge for CSPA and JEA, and is now in his first term as Northeast Regional Director for JEA.

Statement of Goals:
My goals are to continue the direction for JEA that he established in GSSPA of a strong annual membership drive through the assistance of State Directors and Yearbook reps. throughout the region. With the Philadelphia convention looming for the fall of 2007, it is imperative that additional efforts be made to bring in new members in the Northeast and to assist State Directors in finding means of encouraging positive programs like the Journalist of the Year in each and every state.
