Boston University’s Summer Journalism Academy offers an on-campus, three-week residential program designed for rising high school juniors and seniors with journalism experience:

• Learn from award-winning, working journalists – including two Pulitzer Prize recipients;
• Report on actual events around campus and Boston;
• Publish stories with the Daily Free Press, one of the country’s top college newspapers;
• Improve your writing, interviewing and research skills – applicable for any major and career;
• Explore Boston’s Freedom Trail, Boston Common, Fenway Park, Newbury Street, museums and more;
• Tour nearby colleges: Harvard, MIT, Northeastern, Emerson, Brandeis, Tufts and, of course, Boston University.

The Gloria Shields NSPA Media Workshop brings together the nation’s top workshop faculty and scholastic-journalism experts to propel you and your staff into the year ahead. Whether you’re part of a group or flying solo, you can pick the approach to match your situation, your staff and your schedule. Students will enroll in one workshop course, based on experience level and offering a combination of instruction and hands-on work. Optional Sunday bonus classes are offered on June 23, for those arriving early. The popular auction and dance are held on the last night followed by an awards ceremony on the last day.

The University of Florida Summer Media Institute is a six-day, five-night workshop in which high school students are immersed in journalism and communications. Take part in an assortment of electives and specializations, and learn from award-winning UF instructors and industry stalwarts. Seize the hands-on opportunity to spend time in state-of-the-art university facilities – and to begin preparing for careers in the rapidly changing media environment – at the home of one of the largest and most comprehensive journalism and communications programs in the nation. Students with a passion and talent for storytelling and communication are especially invited.

Camp Cronkite is a five-day media camp at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. High school students dive head-first into media. By day, Cronkite faculty, staff and student guides lead campers in hands-on learning in our state-of-the-art building on ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus; then, campers retreat across the street to Gordon Commons, our residential hall, for supervised R&R.

Campers come from across the country to grow their media skills—and get a taste of college life! Learn a variety of topics and skills within journalism and mass communication including digital journalism, broadcast journalism, sports journalism, digital marketing and so much more.

Annual national conference for high school journalists in their junior year. Students selected from across the USA will gather in the nation’s capital June 22-27, have an opportunity to meet and learn from one another, share their passion for journalism, learn from the pros and join a growing network of more than 1,500 Free Spirit alumni. Participants are awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice.

Join yearbook advisers and students from across the states of Florida and Georgia at the 2024 Leonard’s Press Pass Summer Workshop! This workshop is designed to help improve the visual and verbal appeal of your school’s publication. Professional photographers, reporters and designers will provide hands-on training that’s tailored to meet your goals. Leonard’s is a photography and yearbook company based in St. Augustine, Florida, serving over 700 schools in Florida and Georgia.

Do you feel passionate about telling true stories that make the news? Are you interested in careers in the film, television, radio, online, mobile and other new media industries? Or do you want to learn how to become a creative problem solver, writer, decision-maker and persuasive communicator? Gain hands-on experience in these areas during the Summer Media Academy at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Choose from Advertising and Public Relations; Broadcast Journalism; Entertainment and Media Studies; or Multimedia Journalism. Each weeklong program is open to ages 13-17. Limited need-based scholarships are available.

Texas Christian University faculty introduce students to the fundamentals of digital reporting in a two-week residency program. Media professionals from Fort Worth and Dallas share their expertise and experiences, discussing changes in media and potential media careers with students. Students develop their critical thinking and writing skills while generating story ideas, which they then report and develop into news stories. They will produce content for the website.
