St. Louis and San Francisco selected as future NHSJC locations
The Journalism Education Association approved two new proposals for the National High School Journalism Convention, signing contracts in St. Louis for fall 2022 and San Francisco for spring 2023.
Both motions passed 7-0 in online votes conducted by the board of directors May 22. The contracts also were approved by the National Scholastic Press Association, JEA’s convention partner.
“While we have many strong programs nestled in the Midwest, we have not had a convention in St. Louis since 2008, previously a regular convention location. The city has several wonderful experiences to offer, but the true value is the the low cost and accessibility,” JEA Executive Director Kelly Glasscock, CJE, said.
The fall NHSJC in St. Louis will again use the America’s Center Convention Complex, located in the heart of the city. All meeting space will be under one roof, with the official convention hotel across the street at the Marriott St. Louis Grand.
The San Francisco convention will be at the Hilton San Francisco. Veteran attendees may remember the Hilton from our 2006 convention and will be pleased by the updates and renovations. The move to a different property was to take advantage of lower room rates, more meeting space and a renovated hotel.
“San Francisco is one of those top-tier cities with so much to offer our convention attendees, but being such an expensive area makes for unique considerations. I’m thrilled JEA and NSPA secured a great property with the space, rates and amenities to meet everyone’s needs and make it all possible,” JEA President Sarah Nichols, MJE, said.
