The Journalism Education Association seeks letters of interest for its interim executive director position at Kansas State University in Manhattan, an All-American City of approximately 57,000 residents in central Kansas.

The person selected for this position will serve on an interim basis (10 to 12 months) with the option of applying for the full position, for which JEA and KSU jointly will conduct a targeted or a national search. Although a separate announcement will be advertised in the fall for the permanent position, interim applicants may indicate in their letter of interest whether they would want to be considered for the permanent search. The interim position has a preferred start date of Aug. 2, 2016.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The interim position includes service as the executive director of the Journalism Education Association (0.8 FTE), the national professional organization of high school journalism teachers whose national headquarters have been at Kansas State University since 1987. Additionally, the executive director serves as a liaison to JEA partners, affiliates and similar organizations.

As a faculty member (0.2 FTE), this person also will be expected to teach one journalism-related course each semester (fall and spring) and provide service to the School.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate should have demonstrated leadership and organizational ability in scholastic or collegiate media on the state, regional or national level. Demonstrated ability to manage people, schedules, budgets and resources is required. Media and/or strategic communications experience is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must have at least a Master’s degree. University-level teaching and/or media advising experience is preferred.

DEADLINE: Review of letters of interest will begin June 1. Candidates may submit a CV or other supporting documentation with their letter.
