Brenda Gorsuch, National Yearbook Adviser of the Year

Brenda Gorsuch, yearbook adviser at West Henderson High School in Hendersonville, N.C., learned today that she is the 2013 national Yearbook Adviser of the Year. The Journalism Education Association presented the award to her at the school. JEA will recognize her again at the JEA/NSPA Spring National High School Journalism Convention in San Diego when she will speak to scholastic media advisers from across the country. Gorsuch also will receive $1,000 for her yearbook program and a $500 personal prize.

The selection committee, made up of representatives from three national organizations and Cindy Todd, 2012 national Yearbook Adviser of the Year, also selected three Distinguished Advisers and four Special Recognition Advisers.

The Distinguished Advisers are: Brenda Field, Glenbrook South High School, Glenview, Ill.; Jed Palmer, Sierra Middle School, Parker, Colo.; and Meghan Percival, McLean (Va.) High School. The Special Recognition Advisers are Thomas Gayda, North Central High School, Indianapolis; Patricia Monroe, Burges High School, El Paso, Texas; Erinn Harris, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Alexandria, Va.; and Nicole Wilson, Carmel (Ind.) High School.
