Kim Green named Medal of Merit winner

The Journalism Education Association has chosen Kim Green, MJE, of Greensburg, Ind., as a 2013 Medal of Merit winner. This award is presented to JEA members who have made significant contributions to scholastic journalism.

Green is the publications adviser at Columbus (Ind.) North High School and is the JEA Certification Commission chair. She is a frequent convention and workshop speaker.

As Tom Gayda, MJE, wrote, “Our state and nation are stronger in scholastic journalism because of Kim.”

Green was named JEA’s 2011 H.L. Hall National Yearbook Adviser of the Year, and she has received many other state and national awards. The publications she advises have earned Pacemakers and Best of Show rankings from National Scholastic Press Association, Gold Crowns from Columbia Scholastic Press Association and numerous other state and national honors.

Green’s motto is “Leave it better than you found it,” and she said in her Adviser of the Year speech that her students have bought into that.

As her teaching partner Rachel McCarver, MJE, wrote, “Her passion for scholastic journalism is apparent to everyone that has worked with her.”

Green will receive the Medal of Merit award Nov. 16 during the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Boston.

The Journalism Education Association Inc. is the only independent national scholastic journalism organization for teachers and media advisers. It is headquartered at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan.
