The best-selling book chronicles life inside the world’s new education superpowers. Amazon selected “The Smartest Kids in the World, a “New York Times” a bestseller, as one of the Best Nonfiction Books of 2013.

” ‘The Smartest Kids in the World’ is an excellent book for our first One Book effort,” JEA president Mark Newton, MJE, said. “It’s compelling content in a world we understand but can understand even better. It will create some interesting discussion among some of the nation’s best educators. I know our members who participate will have quite a bit to say. We’ll learn a lot in an engaging way.”

To help create a sense of community, JEA leaders and members will conduct a series of online chats and discussions over the course of the next three months, culminating with a live discussion at the organization’s spring national convention in San Diego April 10-13, 2014.

“The One Book experience is yet another opportunity to create strong relationships within our JEA community,” Newton said. “We thought it would be fun to offer a One Book experience for our association of scholastic journalism educators. I believe this opportunity will not only give us ideas for our classrooms, but empower an even stronger organization.”

The suggested retail price of the hardcover book is $28. The JEA Bookstore will offer a special sale on the One Book through Feb. 22, the last day of Scholastic Journalism Week.

The JEA One Book sale: $22 for nonmembers and $19.80 for members using the bookstore discount code at checkout, plus shipping, at the JEA bookstore at store.jea.org. Members should login to the members-only area jea.org/membersarea/ before ordering to get the discount code. The JEA staff will ship all orders shortly after the first of the new year.
